Joining us this episode is Matt Dixon, the host of the Footsteps of the Fallen podcast, and I am so excited he is here! Matt is a military historian, battlefield researcher and guide, author and, of course, podcaster. He too, has an amazing depth of knowledge about places all along the Old Front Line of the Great War’s Western Front. Matt has 30 years of researching and writing behind him, and I can’t wait to hear about his journey into the history of the First World War.

My grandfather did not pass in the Great War, but served in France for 3 years with the 639 Aero Squadron, a little known division on loan to the British for creating airfields in France. I have his maps, a photo journal, and dozens of letters to his mother through the time. His brother was a Balloon Bombardier, that also survived the war. I would love to share what I have! Hi Mr. Barrans,
Thank you for reaching out! It would be a pleasure to look over your grandfather’s materials.
I will send you an email directly.
Best regards,
Mike
